How to password protect my root html folder?
« on: November 24, 2003, 10:25:52 AM »
Hi,

I am trying to protect my main site from visitors while I work on it and using the control panel app could not find a way to protect the root folder because it says '/(Current Folder)' and it won't let me select that or navigate to a higher level so the public_html folder shows.  Can anyone help?  :)

How to password protect my root html folder?

You can password protect one of your sub-folders and then move the .htaccess file it creates to the public_html folder. You'll need to change the path the password list it created, though. I'm not sure if it uses an absolute path, but it's possible. In which case you could just move it and be done with it.
