Social media marketing refers to the process of gaining traffic or attention through social media sites. Social media itself is a catch-all term for sites that may provide radically different social actions. For instance, Twitter is a social site designed to let people share short messages or “updates” with others. Facebook, in contrast, is a full-blown social networking site that allows for sharing updates, photos, joining events and a variety of other activities.
Social media has done wonders for many brands, even big brands like Dominos. In May 2015, Domino’s rolled out their “tweet-to-order campaign,” a short-term service which encouraged customers to send a tweet to the company using a single pizza emoji, and their favorite order would end up conveniently on their doorstep for which they won Titanium Grand Pix award at Cannes. This campaign not just gave them media coverage but it worked as well: more than 50% orders come from online channels today for dominos.
