password protected directories don't prompt for password
« on: January 10, 2012, 10:29:48 AM »
I have set up a couple of directories under public_html with password protection through Control Panel.  When trying to access the directories with "http://www.domain/directoryname" I get a title bar that says "Nothing found for 'directoryname'".  If I take the password protection off, I can access the directories fine. The .htaccess files and .htpasswds folder appear to be correct as far as I can tell.  Is this some other security issue?

If you are going to try to password protect a directory under a WordPress installation you will need to take an additional step in order to make it work. This is because WordPress creates its own .htaccess file in the domains root hosting directory which you will need to make a change to in order to make our password protection feature work. If you don't make this modification WordPress will give a 404 error when you try to access your password protected directories.
