Ok.

I'm still waiting for the DNS changes to resolve (changed a few minutes ago)

but my site is  http://www.oldskoolgames.com

I think it's safe to say, if it loads terribly slow, you are getting my old host.  But if it's speedy, the DNS changes are working through.

I'd give you all my addy on the leo server, but all my navigation is based on includes, which all point to my .com   :?

Let me know what you guys think of it.  Content wise, that is..

Looks nice! The only suggestion that I can give you is to make that box in the middle that has the red text it's own box without the other big rectangle around it.

Maybe it would look better but then again it might now. I'd give it a try though.

the big white square in the middle that holds all the content is the only problem

the sites nice and the contents ok

the white square in the middle stays the same size no matter how little content is on it

i'd think about making it go smaller when theirs onl a little bit of content... such as the main page and the reviews page

Greetz...!

It's a personal decision I made a few days ago during a re-design.

I am very picky about my image placement.  I want it to show up properly in all targeted resolutions.

This means 1024x768, 1280x1024, 1600x1200.

I used to have a base template of 800x600.  However,  when going up in resolution,  the text in a liquid template will  just look like a few sentences.   Also I want to have some bigger pictures - but if I do that, it won't display properly in 800x600.

So I have only decided to focus on 1024 and higher.   Sucks I know.. heh

I might do something new with it in another few months though (as seems to be the trend)

And yes the red text needs to go.. I was testing something that was preventing the right side border on my news posts from coming up and never changed it back :)

I've been doing some thinking about it,

I was thinking of reverting to the original 800x600, and such...  Since I discussed using php to make instant thumbnails for pics in another thread, which I think would be an OK idea.   Keep my site viewable "nicely" in all resolutions,  keep the text looking ok, and whatnot.

I will post back in a while if I decide to do this and get it up/working.

Thanks for your input. I really value it :)

Some input please..  I am thinking I might stick with this one. It's 800x600 friendly and still looks very nice in 1280x1024.

Hehe, cool.. I gotta tackle a few placement problems now.... that should be fun =\

This is the template I've decided on, just waiting for some feedback from some others I have asked

http://www.oldskoolgames.com/test/reviews/nes/wolverine/review.php

(this is the only page on that exact template currently)

wow i love reto games. My friend is always going on about 'ya all kung foo' or something like that, have you ever head of it?
In your review section instead of having nothing displayed except an index, you should do something similar to ign.com, have link to the last 10 reviews or something :)
On your reviews i thought 'back home next' was refering to the next game review not the next page in this review. Perhaps change it so its something like on ign.com 'back page1 page 2 last', any make those links bigger and more obvious
hope that made sense

I don't do scores..

My experience with the game is the review, so to speak.  You should be able to draw some sort of conclusion by reading it and looking at the pictures, though I admit some reviews are more lax than others.

When people look for scores, or stars, it gives me the impression that's all they really wanted to see.  I don't think it is fair to game to give them such ratings, as it discorouges people from actually reading the review.   So instead of  "Oh it got 3 stars it must suck", they have to actually spend some time at my site to find out how good the game might be.

I realise a lot of people might not understand the concept, but it's how I work.  I abhore sticking ratings on any work I publish.  I mean, why write a review if you can just put a star by the game, and judge it that way ??

As for the review index pages, I agree they are pretty blank, but I'm not sure what I want to fill them with.  THe last 10 reviews of every system might be something to look at, but I think it would counter-balance the review listing I already keep visible on all pages.

It would be nice to maybe have some sort of collage for each section, but I suck at graphics completely.  Finding an artist who would do something of substantial quality, and then be available in the future as  I add new sections etc, would be a bit of a task, especially when I really don't have the money to pay for that..   (hint hint, all you art wizards)

i like the place...

i didn't really notice anything about this on the site, but...do you accept reviews from visitors to the site?

if so, i may be able to come up with a few in my spare time (when i've got some)

the site is near the top of my favorites list :D

Yes I accept reviews..  But, I have a very strict criterea - and in lue of my recent redesign changes I must first go back and revise those rules before asking you to read them.

The current set can be read by clicking the  "Submit A Review"  link, on my Navigation box.

The changes I need to make are minor, and have to do with screenshot resolution.

Well, I probably won't have a lot of free time to update anything right away,  but why don't you drop me an e-mail,  with what games you were thinking of doing, and on what system, and I'll give you all the info you need to know
