Upgrading from shared to VPS

what do I need to know?
What do I need to do?
is there cpanel in vps?
will i have to trasnfer to a new database server? and if so will i have to change my passwords?
will i be able to make more sql calls/connections? does my bandwidth usage increase?
(becasue my forum was bdropped for having too many connections)

anyone help would be great

You will need to backup your current web site configurations and files before getting started.  I would also recommend you browse through here:
