param tag errors
« on: January 24, 2007, 06:16:26 PM »
The following link is in rough draft mode -

When validating, I get the error messgae:

The tag: "param" has an XML style closing syntax for an empty element even though version: "HTML4" is not an XML tag language.[HTML 4.0]

Just curious why I'm getting that. Thanks.

I don't think it's anything to lose sleep over. Your page is HTML 4.01 strict, and in validating it, the validator noticed that you used the XML-style closing /> on some tags. Normally that would be required for XML or XHTML, but not HTML. By any chance, did it give the same complaint about the <embed.../> tag? I don't see any <br/> or <img ... /> tags. You can take out the closing "/" if you want to, and that should shut up the validator. It's just noting that you're doing an XML-style thing in an HTML document.
