C-panel Upgrade Causing issues with named
« on: August 26, 2006, 06:16:15 AM »
The most recent security upgrade for C-Panel is causing an issue for named on many of our dedicated machines.  You will find more information on the situation at

To correct the situation you need to make the following changes to your server:

Login to shell as root and open your resolv.conf (Resolver Configuration File):

nano -w /etc/resolv.conf

Add the following line to the bottom of resolv.conf:

Note: Do not remove any of the other nameserver entries, or any search or domain entries, only insert the above line.

Ctrl+O (to save)
Ctrl+X (to exit the file)

This will give your machine access to internet to get the upgrade:

yum update bind-libs

This will begin the upgrade, it will ask you:

[update: bind-libs 20:9.2.4-14_EL3.i386]
Is this ok [y/N]:

at this point you will type in a y

Then restart the nameserver:

service named restart

and the issue should be fixed.

Our techs are working to get all of our managed customers updated.  If you are managed and have changed your password we will be unable to login and fix your machine, you should contact us with your new password.

Just to add, if yum update bind-libs does not work, add the ip to the top of the listed name servers and then try again.
