you shouldn't have to do a "<div style=...>" in that paragraph.

If I dont, then I dont have any control over the text without affecting the text above,,, (hence inside <p> tags, is why I had to remove them and add the style thing to get separate control over the font,,understand ???

I am sure it would validate either way but,
THz said NEVER use them but relative instead like:

Code: [Select]
<td><!--R1C1-->
            <a href="firstguitar.html">First
            Guitar</a><br />
            <a href="acoustic.html">Acoustic
            Guitar</a><br />
            <a href="classical.html">Classical
            Guitar</a><br />
            <a href="electric.html">Electric
            Guitar</a><br />
            <a href="choosing.html">Choosing A
            Guitar</a><br />
            <a href="stringing.html">Stringing The
            Guitar</a><br />
            <a href="intonation.html">Intonation
            Problems</a></td>

Looks neater, but everyone else said always use absolute, but I trust THz as he has really helped me ALOT on this site and it has all passed validation.

I have the link thing figured out but the template is way off in FF (I dont like FF) any idea why ? The home page is fine but the About Guitar pages are crazy and as far as I can see the code is the same, any ideas ?  Thanks !

Also I need input on the footer question above (way above lol)

And who told you not to use absolute links?  Is that part of the validation?
That was me.
It has nothing to do with validation. It has to do with management and portability.
Let me explain:
Right now he is designing his web site under /site2/ and if he uses absolute links all links will look like http://guitar-antics.com/site2/blabla.html
The day he decies to move the new site to the old one he will have to change ALL links, and without scripting knowledge, he will have to go trough all web pages to change the links. And this is true every time he wants to move his website.
Another reason is, if he wants to make a mirror of his web site, and the name is guiarantics.com for example, again he will have to change the links.

Now if he uses relative links, he can move around his website and not be dependent on the location of the web site. He can even download all files and burn them on a CD, and the web site will still work directly from the CD.

Also relative links do not take as much space as absolute ones.

You use a wrong page for template.
You have to use the index.html as a template.

http://joro.geodar.com/Rat/ -> here is your index with a footer and a copyright notice and a license I would choose for this kind of work
http://joro.geodar.com/Rat/firstguitar.html -> here is the first page with footer etc that you can use as a template for the rest of your web pages.

If you want to change/add anything try to do it trough the .css files, not trough the .html files.
I've moved some of your modifications in the .css files and I've added a footer class for your footer div

so don't forget to copy over the new css files along with the index.html and firstguitar.html

Also I've changed the image links to point to images/ directory, where it is a good idea to store all your images.

I hope you like it.

I copied the code directly from the index.php (not html,,, lol)  page. Not sure what went wrong, but doesnt matter now. Thanks for fixing that   :thumb:

I am guessing that since my pages dont require much scrolling down that we dont need any "menu links" at the bottom ???? (it seems all sites have them and some of my pages will require more scrolling down ?  Is it not a pro thing to have the links at bottom ?? I think perhaps at least a "back to top" link ?? Let me know what you think on that issue.

Can we center the copyright thing ? ( I like balance) lol

Now I need to focus on making all the links relative ! Looking ahead I will need info on how to add the Blog (probly Wordpress) , the Forums (SMF like I have now except not bridged to Mambo) can that be transferred as it is ? and eventually a PhotoGallery (most likely Coppermine), and some sort of search script for the site. Be thinking on all that while I finish the rest of the pages that I can. At least now I have work to do !

I can't thank you enough, you have been so much help and I am learning so much in the process.

Happy RAT

I never use links from the bottom of the pages, but that is me.

Centering, you should know how to do by know even using css. Hint: add text-align:center; in the footer class.
but I think copyright looks better in one end.

I never use links from the bottom of the pages, but that is me.

I rarely ever have either until last night when my g/f wanted to apply online to a company and it was the only place it could be found was in the bottom in a cluttered looking bunch of links there. I dont like clutter so we will forget about that for now. If I have a long page I will add a back to top link.

I will think about the centering copyright thing.

I forgot about one more thing in my list above,, the "date script" that DSB started. Any idea how to make it work ??

Thanks,  RAT

Something else I just thought of:

It has been my understanding that one should put the image size in the code so that pages load faster (knowing how much to allow for the image lets it load the text and everything else then the image last, hence making faster loading pages), and I dont see the image sizes in this new code we are using ?? Should it be there for this reason ??? Let me know,,, thanks  RAT

about the date thing, you will have to rename the index.html to index.php and replace Thu, May 04, 2006 with the php function you were using before. (date() with some arguments I assume).

The size of the images is a good idea, you can go trough them and add the dimentions, it will not harm in any way.

My site is down right now ("great LP") so I'm not able the make the changes in the usual place, but you should be able to do it.

Thanks THz, I know nothing about the php date script,   :(  that was all DSB's doing,  I am clueless when it comes to that,   :o was why I was asking !!!!   :?

I will go thru and add all the image dimensions.  :thumb:

Another quick Q:

How would I make an <h3>heading</h3> align to the left or right ??  :?

Thanks !  (Sorry about your site,   :(am sure it will be back soon)

Busy RAT

PS("back to top" code in xhtml strict would be ?????)

try this as an example. The alignment of the <h2> is in css/document.css -> the cright h2 { } part

Yep, relative links would be better.  This is one of those "D-ohh" moments for me.  I seem to be having a lot of those lately.
If you can't design an attractive, standards-compliant website using nothing more than Notepad and a decent graphics editor, you need to rethink your approach to web design.

There is a cright ,,, but there is NO cright h2 in that .css,,,,  HOW would I add one and make it align left ?

Then say I had another page I wanted the  h2 to align center, or right,, how would that work ??

Thanks,  RAT
