My First professional redesign
« on: January 11, 2006, 01:21:07 PM »
Hey everyone,

I have recently been working on my first paid web design job (for the family business, but hey, it still pays).  I'm just looking for some reactions and input.

The OLD site is here: Pinewood Lodge Old

My redesign: Pinewood Lodge New

Thanks in advance for any comments.

I think its a big improvement especially since the old one asks me to install the JRE and the new one doesn't.

rates.php was not found and I'm personally not a fan of opening pdf files on a website but the site is much nicer in a lot of ways.

BIG improvement HouseofRock, you did well. The "rates"page doesn't resolve for me, and there are some broken links on the "activities" page, I too am not a fan of pdf files perhaps you could offer html version as well ??  Overall I think it is a great improvement on the old site your family should be pleased ! :thumb: Always good to have a payin' gig eh ???  lol
Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing !

I actually haven't put up rates.php

Thanks for the input.  I am not sure what you are suggesting for the .pdf however, you mean make a page with an image of it?

Hi HouseofRock - I like your new design better too. The only suggestion I would make is to have the background of the cell with the navigation the same color as the background of the actual navigation. Lose the green and use the tan color. It just looks strange to me to have the color stop right at the end of the navigation.

Thanks for all the compliments everyone.  I appreciate it.

As far as the navigation bar goes, it is still up in the air a bit, once it is finalized, it should look better.  I did have a question however.

The little pinecone image that ghosts out when you scroll over it is all CSS.  It works great in FF, but IE flickers it a bit.  Seems like a caching problem??  Any ideas?

Nice redesign HouseofRock.   :thumb:  Nonetheless, I do have two suggestions.

My first suggestion would be to change the transition of your navigation buttons to the former style.

In the old site, your pine cones were somewhat transparent and then became more visible on rollover.  However in the redesign, all pine cones are visible and then become somewhat transparent on rollover.

My second suggestion would be to include the city, state location of the lodge in your home page introduction text.

While I did find the location info at the bottom of the screen and in the directions page, upon initial read I was wondering how quick I could get there.   :D

Nothing major, just my two cents.

That was my first thought too, but I scrolled to bottom and recognized where it was, but i hate it when I see a website that advertises a location and doesnt say where it is  !!!! I also agree with the button idea,,, RAT
