Can't get even the most basic form working..
« on: June 21, 2005, 04:10:09 PM »
Hey leighsww

Getting "Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request etc etc etc

Followed verbatim all steps here: http://www.lunarforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=18221&highlight=formmail+setup

- Dl'ed formmail_compat-3.14c1
-  Step 1 Changed formmail.pl to mainscript.pl
-  Step 2 Changed following 4 lines replacing only "user" and "user@yourdomain.com" in 3 places as directed
  $mailprog = '/usr/sbin/sendmail -oi -t';
  @referers = qw(yourdomain.com localhost);
  @allow_mail_to = qw(user@yourdomain.com localhost);
   From: user@yourdomain.com
- Step 3 Uploaded the file to my cgi-bin in text mode, chmoded to 755

For the  html form,  I copied the example from the README and deleted the Recipient tag, changing the domain to mine. Its here:

http://www.errall.com/contact1.html   --->Internal Server Error

Tried again using the most basic steps explained in "HTML Form" ,  but this section presumes one knows how to set up a form correctly with beginning and ending tags, submit button etc - I don't. But here is that:
http://www.errall.com/contact.html   --->Internal Server Error

3 1/2 hours of reading and reading, trying this, trying that, reading and reading and reading and reading, kicking the dog and not even the most basic form - very frustrating  - What gives?

Editing .tl in Mac osX's TextEdit
Editing html page in DreamweaverMX using Text only mode.

When clicking on the links you provided, I'm receiving errors saying that your contact1.html and your contact.html are not found on the server.

Make sure that you have those files uploaded to your public_html.

Okay, I see that those forms are actually named:

_contact1.html
_contact.html

With the underscore preceeding the name.

I tried the forms and received the server errors this time, so it's gonna be something with your script.

PM (Private Message) me your username and password to login to your server, and I'll take a look at the script to see what's wrong.

You can change your password when I am done.

Okay, it should be working now (as far as the script is concerned, there will be no more error messages).

Go ahead and test out your forms.

I removed what you had in the @recipient config in the script, because that should've been left blank.
