Lunarpages blocking attachments now?!
« on: November 15, 2004, 02:05:22 AM »
Are you now blocking attachments?

I just tried to send myself a link from work. and got this. So Lunarpages blocks some domains from emailing us, some IPs from accessing our web sites and is now chosing what attachments we can recieve in emails? Wish all this was listed when I signed up =(

Thats odd, because from the header...

Code: [Select]
Return-path: <mywork@email.com>
Received: from [138.32.33.140] (helo=mailman2.ppco.com)
by valina.lunarpages.com with esmtps (TLSv1:DES-CBC3-SHA:168)
(Exim 4.43)
id 1CTddf-00016e-6T; Mon, 15 Nov 2004 01:59:11 -0800

it appears to have been sent from lunarpages. Or am I reading that wrong, 'Received: from valina.lunarpages.com'?

If your domain is hosted on a lunarpages server, then of course any email you send/receive for that domain is going to go through the lunarpages server, and that path will be reflected in the email headers.  That doesn't discount that the software blocked it.  The two are unrelated. :D

Have you tried following Garvey's suggestion?

Where I work, the outgoing mail server actually strips certain attachments, like that one, and sends a similar response back to me... a lot of places are moving to this type of setup to help prevent the spread of viruses which automatically send themselves out using your username/password...

I can't count the number of times I've had people report that they got a message similar to yours but had not tried to send anything out...
The above information may or may not reflect current policy, opinions, or views since it was likely made almost 10 years ago.

With the new MS security? A lot of stuff is getting striped from E-Mails!

Set at default! 95% of my E-Mails have no pics in them at all. MS security has blocked them. A lot of other junk is blocked to. With all the script injection and self loading code. Be happy its doing it. :abduct:

Remember? There is code now that you do not even have to do any thing but see a pic or URL and you computer is hosed for life.

Why is the Unix base OS's virus prof???

  In UNIX nothing is automatic.

  With Windows its all automatic.

Yes, just be glad it does work, and when you want it not to work so you can do something, it get's in the way, that's when you sue MS.

just wanted to note, that in some cases this can happen on the servers.

When cpanel is updated in some instances, it will overwrite some of the exim settings.  This can be fixed with a restore of a backed up exim configuration, or by directly editing the configuration by the System Admins.

if you see errors getting mail attachments such as .URL or .EML attachments, send a ticket to the helpdesk (http://helpdesk.lunarpages.com/index.php or support@lunarpages.com) and we'll investigate for you.

When you do send the ticket include the following:

1. Error message received.
2. Email client you are using (Outlook Express, Outlook 2003, Eudora etc)
3. Are all mail accounts affected? Only one? -- Provide an example email account and password for our testing purposes only.
4. Does the mail attachment get to webmail without a problem, but fails to reach your local mail client?

note:
for Outlook 2003 users, yes, by default I believe, it will block attachments, so you need to change the settings, in the Tools > Options menu (I believe this is possible, I don't have Outlook 2003 installed yet -- if not possible, use Garvey's suggestion above)

note 2:
if number 4 applies to you, the situation is originating at your computer system.  And you can get help for that here, or at the developer site for your mail client.  Unfortuantely, we cannot offer that level of support from the helpdesk.
