Abell
« on: September 04, 2004, 08:01:25 AM »
We are experiencing the 2nd worst DOS attack we've ever had on Abell.  We believe we found the site getting attacked and have taken steps to remove that account from the server.  However, the attack is not stopping so we have no choice but to change the IP on the server.

I will be emailing all customers on Abell shortly with the new information.

The only issue we have seen in the past as a result of such action is that customers need to empty the cache on their computer.  It usually takes 30 to 45 minutes for everything to update.

The fllowing email was just sent to Abell customers:

Hello,

This morning Abell underwent a severe DOS attack.  Our system administrators isolated the cause of the attack very quickly and took measures to remove the site getting targeted from the server.  However, even though the site was removed, the attack continued on the server.
In order to rectify the situation we are changing the IP of the server which will immediately end the attack.  Customers will need to empty the cache on their computer.  It usually takes 45 to 60 minutes for everything to update.

We apologize for the inconvenience and assure you we are working as quickly as possible to get this resolved.  If you have any questions regarding this or need further assistance, please contact support@lunarpages.com.

Thank you for your understanding in the matter.

Hi, Kathleen!

Any idea when Abell will be back up? I have cleared my cache and still nothing?

Thanks,
Joe

Same here. We have no way of accessing, because the flushdns doesn't work and even resetting the DSL modem/router didn't help.

Since we can't receive any emails to Abell accounts, can't access cPanel, and we don't know the new IP address to change the HOSTS file, etc. we are in a Catch-22.

Hmm...just did the flush dns thing in a command prompt, still nothing.

The lastest info, actually about 1 hour old, is that they are rebooting Abell.

Does it usually take that long for a reboot?

Hi guys,

I know this is frustrating but please bear with us as I assure you that our techs have been working non-stop to resolve this situation.

Abell is currently up and running on its new IP address, however, there are still IP blocks in place for the time being.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
