Need a special counter....any suggestions?
« on: April 20, 2004, 09:16:00 PM »
My website is for music..it will have songs posted on it. Im trying to find a counter that will display to me how many times a song has been played (m3u) or downloaded (mp3). Any suggestions?

The normal counter....that they offer here...does not seem sophisticated enough.

Thanks

You could use your web logs to track it yourself. Analog or Webalizer should do the trick, or you could download the logs and run them through a parser on your own system if that's more convenient and accurate for you.

I need it to be quick and simple....Im hoping I could just have a page.....with the name of the song....and the stats next to it. Rather than trying to Look through logs etc.......here is an example

Thanks for responding.

well, anything's possible. Likely what they do with their ASP pages is keep track of every time they redirect the user to an m3u or mp3 file.

nutshell program flow:
user clicks an asp or php page to listen to a song
the page tracks a 'hit' in a database table
the page redirects their browser to an m3u or mp3 file so the user can listen

Not hard at all.
