"Notice" application wanted
« on: January 15, 2003, 09:30:00 PM »
I'm not sure if this is a CGI/Perl type of program, or a Javascript type.

What I am looking for is something to add to the front page of the web site I am working on, one that could include an alert window within the text of the page. I'd like it to be an alert that can be activated only when it is needed, and is invisible otherwise.

The reason for it has to do with scheduling of dog training classes. In case of inclement weather, or class being canceled for some other reason, it would be very helpful to be able to activate this alert to let people taking classes to check for last minute changes just by going to the web site.

What would be even more ideal would be for it to be possible to add/remove/change the message by logging in and changing the message, without the need to change the "index.html" page code. (I'm thinking here of the people who make the decision being able to access this feature and make the announcement, much like putting a special message on an answering machine.)

Anyone aware of such a beast?

You could probably write something very simple to do that! Basically it could work as follows..

Use SSI to auto insert the out put of the program. The program when run just tests to see if its activated, and if so outputs a block of code you tell it too! :-)

http://www.scriptsearch.com/ might have something for you.. if not give me a shout I might be able to create something for you.
