Title: RoR application not looking in the app folder
Post by: richesh on November 29, 2008, 07:18:02 AM
Hey Everyone,

I had asked lunarpages to create an app called "corporate" for my domain.  After they were done, I noticed that there was a symlink from public_html/corporate to the /home/user/corporate/public folder.  This works fine for files that are in the public folder, but when I try to access: www.mydomain.com/corporate/root (I have a Root Controller and associated view in the app folder), I receive a 404 error.  I understand this is because I don't have a "root" file in the public folder.

Am I missing some configuration or settings for it to look in the corporate/app folder for controllers/views, etc?

Thanks in advance for your help.

If this was a special thing support did for you, you may ask them for help in getting things setup past this initial step.  Thanks!

How else are we suppose to be able to get RoR apps generated on shared hosting servers?

Had the same issue with my really simple ROR app which works fine under instantRails on my Windows XP laptop. There was no .htaccess file in the public folder on the lunarpages server, which probably sets up some re-write rule to use the fastCGI. Once past that, the problem now is that it is unable to login to the database when it finds the right controller and view.

I have recreated the database from scratch, and created a single user with all privileges. Since it is a simple test app with a couple of tables and less than 10 records total, I did not need to do a db migrate or anything. In the config/database.yaml file I have tried various combinations but with no success. In a shared hosting situation there are few things only support can do. While it is not reasonable to ask support to help us with learning ROR, I think it is their job to make sure a really simple application works correctly in their shared environment. It should not take this long to get a simple application up and running.

Did you ever get this working?  I'm struggling getting my Rails app to work in LunarPages.  I'm trying to migrate my app from another hosting company.
