Title: How to put a blog on your front page?
Post by: guffy on April 24, 2008, 10:28:17 AM
Hi, I have built a page with tables in DW CS3. Now I would like to add a blog in the center area of my front page. There are tabs on the left side and some links on the right side. The center space is perfect for a few blogs. ( I will only blog 1-2 a week). My site is already set up with MySQL and PHP and the FTP is ok. Can someone help me? Im not shure if I can do this throug DW, or if I should just use some of the prebuilt blogs Ifound throug my cpanel/fantastico? If so, then I need help also, because I would like to get only the blog area it self, but not all the other stuff included.  Hope someone knows what I mean? By,by

It may be better to leave your blog as a separate part of the web site.  Mixing site themes with WordPress themes and trying to get things aligned just right could cause you a lot of headaches.  If you want to have a blog, I would suggest just installing WordPress and controlling the entire web site through it - blog and all.

Hi, both of you, I understand that it will probable not work with wordpress, but I thought that somewhere on the way, I read that the wordpress blog was something I would be able to built and create around my website, but not necessarily to built the website around the blog. There is no way I will do that, now that I have spent so much time in creating the site as it is.
I really believe there is an easy script out there to use. (?) :-? Just have to be patient  :notme:
Thank you again,,,Bye,bye

Well, if you wanted to - you could have your site on one side of things, where it has all of it's design information, then install a blogging application like WordPress, and design a theme for it that looks like your web site.  This page from WordPress.org has a little more information on that process:

Create Embed code from your blog for recent post and just Add that embed code at your webpage. May be it will work for you.

I really don't think it was worth dragging up a thread that was finished with nearly 4 years ago.

I think that a blog is better than a site. try not to combine them

There are lots of websites put their blogs on the home page but mostly they feature their new blogs on the home page. It's always preferable to put your blogs in blog section only.

You don't want to clog up your home (front) page with a blog, unless that's the only thing you have on your site (then why are you running a separate home page?). See if your blog software can provide short "teaser" links for the last 2 or 3 blog postings, that you could merge into your home page. That would be ideal, as it makes your visitors aware of the latest blog updates, without taking over the home page, and allows the blog itself to be kept separate. The code for the links is likely to be PHP, so you may have some coding to do to fit it into something primitive like Dreamweaver (sorry, I can't help with that). Something else that DW might allow is to stick an iframe on the page, into which you could display some summary or "newest entries" page from your blog.
