Hi, Garvey.

I see your signature but not the image you posted.

I was trying to use the following:

Barry Katcher
Photo Restoration and Enhancement
http://www.smiledogproductions.com
contact@smiledogproductions.com
<img src="http://www.smiledogproductions.com/AnimationTest1.gif" width="800" height="88">

The first two lines of text and the second two of my URL and mailbox work fine, but the script pointing to my animated .gif image doesn't work; it just comes through as text.  I've tried this script on other forums and it works on some and not on others.  I'm not sure what type of script it is; BB Code, HTML, etc.

Got any ideas?

probably depends on whether HTML is supported in the sigs or not... try adding the image using bbCode instead of HTML, so it would be...

Code: [Select]

[img]http://www.smiledogproductions.com/AnimationTest1.gif[/img]

instead.... I think... I'm not sure if you can resize the image using bbCode or not though, so you might want to make sure the image is the proper size before adding it... and I'd probably not want an image that wide in a forum with this layout since it could end up stretching the table beyond the right side of the screen for some users... (but that's just me :) )

Hi, GM.  I'll trying using the BB Code instead of the HTML.  And yes, if I can't reduce the size in BB to fit on an 800x600 screen, I either won't use it or re-do it to make the image narrower.  I don't want to be the cause for invoking the dreaded horizontal scroll bar.

Thanks for the reply

Garvey - how did you get your signature on?

did phpbb block it because it was to big then?

no, it would work fine inbarrydkatchers original file size, but just as Marc pointed out having it in the original size (1350 x 150 ) would 'break' every page Barry posted on.
So I resized it down to a managable 600 x 67  :)

Hi, Mark.  Thanks for the reply.

1)  Did you use my HTML or GM's bbcode?

2)  Don't understand when you say "the original size (1350 x 150).."  My original size was 800 x 88, wasn't it?

If you view the file directly in FF, it will tell you the size, and it is as large as GM said. http://www.smiledogproductions.com/AnimationTest1.gif

I think you meant me Barry :?

Your original file http://www.smiledogproductions.com/AnimationTest1.gif is 1350 x 150 . As you cant use html code here on the forum width="800" height="88" wouldnt work.
I resized your original to 600 x 67 and allowed it to be viewed 'live' by entering (http:// http://www.x-visions.co.uk/temp/test1.gif)

Sorry, Pete - I DID mean you.

Thu, Mark, Pete, GM - I guess I was confusing file size with the "width" & "height" in the HTML code.

And yes, everyone, I WILL be switching to BBCode this weekend.

Thanks, all  :o

That's o.k., Garvey.  I have a multiple personality disorder, also.  And so do I.

What I mean is I will use the [bb instead of the <HTML format to try and get my image into my signature.  First, though, I want to make the entire image narrower so there won't be any problems on a 800x600 res setting on someone's monitor.

This space for rent. Reasonable rates!

That's a great idea, Trey.  How much can you afford?  :poke:

If you change that to
Code: [Select]
[url=http://smiledogproductions.com/][img]http://smiledogproductions.com/HTMLobj-765/aniGif.gif[/img][/url] your image becomes clickable so you can take the normal txt link out of the top of your signature

hmmm, let me think about that, Pete.  That would make for less clutter; I'm just concerned that some people wouldn't realize that the image is clickable.  What do you think?

By the way, how did you know the image path?  I don't see it anywhere in the signature.  I must be missing something really obvious.

Heading out for work, I'll pick it up there, if I can get onto the site.  If not, after midnight.  Thanks for the tip on the URL.

On here pretty much everyone knows when a sig is clickable as the cursor turns to a hand. (hover over my sig and see)
You also have 'visit poster's website enabled at the bottom of every post
.

As for finding the path, right click an image and go to properties. That gives the image path.
If I wanted to as I'm a moderator on here, I could go and read the path to your image in your signature from your profile anyway

Yup, you're right, Pete.  I was thinking more in terms of a viewer looking at my website and not realizing the the image was a link.  But, by gosh and by golly, this ISN'T on my website, it's on a forum of sophisticated, computer-savvy users.  In any case, I've compromised; removed the text URL but added text to click on image.

As far as my question about how you knew my path, all I can say is "duh".

Incidentally, you're little smiley unsuccessfully attempting to squash the "image here" box is Coo-el.

Yup, it's a gas, Garvey.

I suppose the "Playing Asteroids" under my name indicates a newbie to the board.  When do I get promoted to "Playing Hemorrhoids"?
